Mortgage calculator

Web app AI workflows Personal project 2026

Buying a house in Portugal means a broker's spreadsheet, ten banks moving at different speeds, and a layer of taxes and fees that is rarely explained in English. I built a dashboard with Claude Code to bring it all into one place.

Every offer re-priced for the same house: cheapest per month against cheapest overall, with the best value on each row in green

The first step was structure. Emails, offers, appointment notes and broker messages became one consistent schema, and Portugal's lending rules, such as the Banco de Portugal debt-to-income stress test, became code, so every offer is assessed the same way.

Offers

The broker's comparison is re-priced against the house price and down payment I set. Each row is colour-coded, green for the best value and yellow-green for close behind, so the strongest offer stands out without reading every column. Using those offers and each bank's own lending rules, the calculator then shows what is realistically within reach as you adjust house price, down payment and annual income.

Costs and timeline

A full breakdown of the mortgage and every fee on top of it, alongside a timeline of when each payment falls due.

Cash needed for the deal, the monthly payment, and when each amount is due

Buy vs rent

A sanity check on the whole decision: over a given time horizon, does buying actually beat renting?

Status by bank

An overview of where each application stands, and the next step with every bank.

Application status for ten banks with the next step for each

Ten banks in one table: the stage each application has reached and what comes next

Deal roadmap

Every step from choosing a house to getting the keys, with typical timings, so nothing in the process comes as a surprise.
